Fools Spring
Managing Expectations but Feeling the Inspiration
March is aways a mixed bag of seasonally specific emotions. Often, we see the first signs of Spring creep this month. After a very cold and precipitous winter the temperatures are rising and things appear to be slowly “Springing”. The snowdrops are visible in the garden now that the melt has occurred and sweeping the porch can be done in just a sweater. Winter boots have been swapped for welly’s and the idea of green vegetable recipes are dancing around in my head.
However, March can be stubborn - much like myself. We can be fooled into thinking winter is behind us only to be hit by frosty temperatures, a causal not so fast snow fall and the retched sleety, icy rain which quickly wipes away the glimmer of hope there was.

Fear not though - it is just a test of our will. Don’t let the inspiration fade. Lean in to it - start getting your garden seeds and plan the garden. Spring clean the pantry, polish the copper (is this just a me thing?). Martha Stewart the hell out of your home and create some meals that elicit the taste of Spring.
I have provided a simple recipe to help as well as a two book recommendations below.
Books
Two books that I recently procured and really love are:
Grown Cook Nourish by Darina Allen is very new to my collection and it is an absolute tome. From the Ballymaloe group this books breaks down the growing seasons and delicious recipes for each.
The Language of Food (also known as Miss Eliza’s Kitchen) by Annabel Abbs. I couldn’t put this one down - read in a weekend. An excellent addition to your food fiction bookshelf.
The Winter Break/Reset
Several of you have asked if I am still creating content for YouTube as well as the podcast. Yes, I will again - soon. This winter was busy indeed in the culinary barn but I was also rather ill for much of the winter and honestly a bit run down. Things are improving and my inspiration for the videos and the Podcast with Jill is returning. The work that goes in to this content is considerable, especially amongst the cooking school schedule, events, volunteering and My Table’s retail work. I am outlining a new schedule so that I can continue to produce quality content that feels light and accessible. I promise it will all return! Stay tuned and I appreciate your patience.
